Breast Cancer Seminar

Breast Cancer Seminar and Spring Afternoon Tea

To celebrate the International Women's Day, which was on March 8, the group established by the Aspiration Foundation – the Chinese Women Happiness Reader’s Club- worked together to host the “Breast Cancer Seminar and Spring Afternoon Tea” event at the Marriott Hotel in Houston on March 5, 2016. Clinical Research Executive Director of the Texas MD Anderson Cancer Research Center, Ms. Shen Jie, was invited to this occasion to give a touching, insightful speech to nearly 100 people regarding women’s physical and mental well-being.

In order to ensure the success of this event, the organizers began to prepare a month in advance. They carefully designed promotional materials, booked the venue, ordered afternoon refreshments, and prepared pink ribbons ahead of time. With the theme of breast cancer in mind, all the listeners came wearing bright pink resembling a sea of pink blossom trees.

Before the start of the event, one of the initiators of the Aspiration Foundation, Ms. Jenny Yu (Yu Xiao Chun), Dean of Talent Academy, talked about how women should, apart form working, take care of their health, organize their thoughts and emotions, and live in a graceful manner. She hopes that more women will actively participate in the Aspiration Foundation with full enthusiasm holding care for more vulnerable groups and care for the needs of children by combining each individual’s strength, which is the aim of this foundation for long-term development, and becoming a stronger organization. Ms. Yu’s passionate initiative deserved and got a warm applause.

During the next two hours, Ms. Shen Jie, with mindfulness directed towards women’s health, addressed how to prevent breast cancer and how to identify symptoms of the disease, provided by APP clinical data and a variety of real cases. Her heartfelt and wonderful explanation attracted everyone who was present. Due to her lecture, many people first discovered that in United States, every eight people are diagnosed with breast cancer. Ms. Shen Jie emphasized how this disease must not be taken lightly because females from 20 years old to the age of pregnancy and even males suffer from it. However, even if one is unfortunate enough to be a host of breast cancer, as long as correct treatment is implemented, patients have a five-year survival rate as high as 80%.

The breast cancer lectures were exceedingly successful; many listeners said that they gained a lot of knowledge from this lecture, they learned to live a good life, and that health was a top priority. Throughout rest and teatime, everyone introduced themselves, shared their health experience, and took pictures, showing their beauty and self-confidence. They said that in order to better love their families and societies, women should love themselves.
